Brooklyn Nets Becoming the "Boys Club" of the NBA

I don't know if this is a bad thing or not but if one thing has been proven this NBA offseason it's this: The Brooklyn Nets have become an ultimate "boys club" of a basketball team.

For those who are unfamiliar, a boys club is when you get your best friends from multiple different places and form them in to a team. And that is exactly what the Nets are doing.

It all started last offseason when the Nets made the biggest splash of the offseason by signing Kyrie Irving and Kevin Durant. And when you sign two of the biggest superstars in the game you are almost forced to listen to them.

The season before Irving and Durant came the Nets were already on the rise. They had(and still do) have a solid young core with some great basketball minds in head coach Kenny Atkinson and general manager Sean Marks. But when you bring in superstars and pay them loads of money, it is their operation now.

So When Kyrie is feuding with coach Atkinson, you don't punish Irving, you get rid of the coach. Atkinson, who had helped the Nets out of losing and into a competitive team is now gone. Now that is the boys club at its finest right there.

NBA Rumors: Nets Players (Kyrie Irving?) Wanted Kenny Atkinson Fired As Coach - NESN.com
Kyrie Irving was rumored to have a rough relationship with Kenny Atkinson which lead to him being fired in March.

Now to this offseason. The Nets needed a new head coach, one that would be a great fit for Irving and Durant. Some really good basketball people and experienced coaches were out there. Mark Jackson, Jeff Van Gundy, Jason Kidd, and Ty Lue. These are all competent basketball people.

But remember, the Nets are a boys club now run by KD and Kyrie and they don't want any of these guys. So how about Steve Nash as head coach? Yes great player one of the best point guards ever. But Steve Nash? The guy has never coached before! And now what was a players boys club has now turned into a player and coaches boys club.

Nash brings in longtime teammate A'mare Stoudemire and Durant's best friend and former teammate Royal Ivey to be his assistants. He also brought in his old head coach with Pheonix Mike D'antoni to be an assistant.

If you didn't know what a boys club was before you read this you should know now.

Now is this a bad thing? No, not yet. They will have a healthy Kyrie and Durant next season and people who they are familiar with. It is just hard for me to believe that this can have long-term success. You can say "well Lebron brings in all of his friends to play with him" and yes that is true. But Lebron doesn't let his friends run the day-to-day basketball operations which is what the Nets are doing. Is it a danger? We will for sure find out once the season begins in December.
