HOW WILL THE SAINTS HANDLE THE LOSS OF DREW BREES?
The Saints might be in trouble with the loss of Hall-of-Fame quarterback Drew Brees suffering multiple injuries in the last two weeks.
Brees underwent a second evaluation on Monday, revealing that he has multiple rib fractures on both sides of his chest and a collapsed lung on the right side. The Saints and Brees are currently unsure how long these injuries will set them back, but they are optimistic with a two to three week timetable for his return.
Now the question on many minds of Saints fans: how will head coach Sean Payton handle the loss of his great quarterback? Will 26-year-old Jameis Winston be able to step up to the plate? How will Taysom Hill factor into all of this, as he has been receiving several snaps in games all season at quarterback already?
Even though Payton refused to name a starter, Winston seems to be the favorite in this situation, having completed 6 of 10 passes for 63 yards in the second half of Sunday’s game. While he had no touchdowns, he also had no turnovers which is a good sign.
Taysom Hill is just such a versatile option for the Saints, it would be hard to just subject him to the quarterback position when he has been playing running back, wide receiver, tight end, and full back interchangeably all season. While it is inevitable he will take some snaps during the game, it is unimaginable that he would take the full time position.
The Saints play the Atlanta Falcons at 1 p.m. on Sunday. It will be very interesting to see how the 7-2 Saints handle this new situation on the road to a hopefully successful playoff run.
