Klay Thompson Suffers Season Ending Injury
After it was reported on Wednesday that Klay Thompson of the Golden State Warriors had suffered an injury on his lower right leg during a routine workout, everybody was hoping for the best, but expecting the worse.
And the worse possible option is what they got.
As first reported by ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski, Klay Thompson has suffered a season-ending Achilles tendon tear on that right leg.
This injury comes right before the start of the 2021 season, with Thompson having already missed the entirety of the 2020 season due to rehabbing a torn ACL that occurred during Game 6 of the 2019 finals against the Toronto Raptors.
As the prayers begin to flood in for Thompson, so do the questions for how the Warriors will continue on without him for the next season?
It is reported that Golden State will now apply for the Disabled Player Exception worth $9.3 million. The exception can be used to sign, trade for or claim a player to a one-year contract. This exception will expire on April 17. They currently have a trade exception that expires on November 23 that is worth $17.2 million that can only be used to trade for or claim a player; additionally, they cannot sign a free agent with this exception.
It is hopeful that he can make a full recovery. The entire NBA community prays for his physical and mental health through this time and hope to see him safely back on the court soon.
