Rest in Peace Diego Maradona, one of football's GOAT's
The soccer world is mourning the loss of all time great Diego Armando Maradona. Maradona, Who died Wednesday, November 25 in Argentina at the age of 60, made a lasting impact on the game of soccer across the world and inspired the greats of this era.
Earlier this month, Diego Maradona had an immediate surgery to tend to a blood clot in his brain. At his home in Tigre, Argentina on Wednesday, the legendary soccer player passed away from a heart attack.
Maradona played for Argentina club Bocas Juniors, FC Barcelona and Napoli where he really shown and became one of the all time greats. The four-time Argentinian footballer of the year had a pretty successful career, winning three trophies with Barcelona, five with Napoli, and the holy grail for his country: The World Cup.
Though his stats definitely back him up, they're not exactly what he's is known for. Maradona is known for the way he played the game. His contagious energy, smile, and passion which he played with helped cement his name on the all time greats list for the world's most beloved game.
He exemplified his love for the game in the way he dribbled, gliding past his opponents in a split second. And the way he warmed-up, juggling the ball, rolling around, doing incomprehensible tricks with the ball glued to his feet.
Maradona once said, "If I was in a white dress at a wedding and a muddy ball arrived... I would top it from the chest, without thinking about it."
Soon after the news of his death broke, the world quickly began grieving the loss of Diego Maradona. Fans and and worshippers alike took to the streets by painting murals, leaving flowers and candles- all to honor someone who changed their life through the game of football.Pele, another notable name on football's GOAT lists, tweeted: "Sad news today. I have lost a dear friend, and the world has lost a legend. There is much more to say, but for now may God give his family strength. One day, I hope, we will play soccer together in the sky."
Napoli president Aurelio de Laurentiis swiftly made the decision rename Napoli's stadium, Stadio San Paolo, in honor of their late hero. Soon, the stadium where he once played will be called the Di Armando Maradona' stadium.
The world of football will miss Maradona, someone who indefinitely blessed the world's game with his presence. Lionel Messi said it best, saying "He leaves us, but not for good. Diego is eternal."
