The Islanders Had a Chance to do Something Cool....and Missed Out
The NHL recently launch a series of vintage jerseys for each of the 31 teams. Most of the teams have a great take of throwback jerseys with using the combination of a vintage logo and jersey and making it look modern and clean. New York Islanders fans were excited to see if they would bring back one of their previous jerseys.

Let us just say their vintage jersey doesn't look very different from their current home jersey.
| This jersey was unveiled this week as the Islanders "vintage" jersey. The jersey is meant to be a throwback to the teams blue jerseys from 1980. |
The Islanders had an opportunity to do something cool and they really let many hockey fans down. Many anticipated that the Islanders would bring back the controversial "fisherman" jersey. These jerseys were worn for just two seasons from 1995-1997 and have a very "tainted" legacy. These jerseys were worn at a time when the organization was at a low. They had an owner who was convicted of fraud for not having enough money to fully purchase the team. The Nassau Coliseum was beginning to crumble as the arena became outdated. And lastly the Islanders just were not a good team while wearing these jerseys.
| The fisherman jersey was what the fans wanted. But because of its legacy, it was not brought back. The Islanders had other options too. They could've brought back the orange based jersey, even their black and orange jersey from the late 2000s. The Islanders are by far the biggest losers when it comes to which team has the best vintage jersey. Come on Islanders, at least change the colors of the numbers or something! |
